Obituary of John Brooks

John Maurice Brooks December 18, 1915-October 7, 2007 John M. Brooks, age 91, of Port Orange, Florida formerly of Monroe, Michigan died Sunday afternoon at his home. He had been in declining health. Friends may gather from 1:00pm until funeral services at 3:00pm, Monday, October 15, 2007 at the Merkle Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles McCollum pastor of Faith Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. John was born December 18, 1915 in Caylor, Virginia the son of Tilman and Sarah Ella (Chadwell). He married Rhoda Edith (Robinson) in Middlesboro, Kentucky on February 25, 1937. Together they enjoyed 66 years of marriage until Rhoda's death in 2003. John was employed for many years on the assembly line at Monroe Auto Equipment and General Motors Hydromatic. He retired in 1979. He enjoyed fishing.He had attended Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by three children: Gwen Berns of Newport, Darrell Brooks of Daytona, Florida, and Jerry Brooks of Denver, Colorado; eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Hubert Brooks.
