Merlyn "Merlie" R. Clark March 11, 1927 - June 12, 2010 Merlyn "Merlie" R. Clark was born in Monroe, MI, March 11, 1927 to Mabel and Burton Clark. He passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Fountian View at the age of 83 following a lengthy illness. A private service was held with Rev. Jimmie Walker formerly of Monroe Alliance Church officiating. Military honors were presented by Monroe VFW Post 1138. He was laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle. The family has entrusted Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 with arrangements. Merlie kept a positive attitude throughout his health struggles and shared many smiles and kind words with family, friends, and caregivers. He was a devoted and enthusiastic husband, father, and grandfather. He worked for Ford Motor Stamping Plant for 39 years. He loved to golf and bowl and spent most of his life doing both. He was on the Lennard Spuds Bowling League for 30 plus years at Monroe Sport Center. He proudly served in the Army following his 1945 graduation from Monroe High School. Playing recreational softball was a passion as a young man. He transitioned from a player to an umpire for the City of Monroe Recreational Leagues for many years. His longtime hobby was gardening on property that was the family farm he grew up on. Merlie loved the Detroit Tigers and the Michigan Wolverines. He was a member of Monroe Alliance Church, an honorary member of the Monroe Club, and a life member of VFW Post 1138. The Clark family would like to express their appreciation to everyone for their love and support throughout the past three years. Merlie will be missed by those who knew him. Sincere gratitude is given to Jan Menzel of Fountain View, and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care. Memorials in Merlie's honor can be given to Monroe Alliance Church or Salvation Army. Survivors include his devoted wife of 61years, Beatrice, daughters, Terri (Steven) Borgman and Nancy Stark; grandchildren, Jared Stark, Mark (Kelly) Borgman, and Stephanie Borgman; sister, brothers, and in laws, Jeanette (Norman) Selfe, Chester (Beulah) Clark, and Harold Clark, loyal friend, Ken Bleyart, and many loving nieces and nephews.
