William M. Birch was born on July 5, 1945 in Monroe, Michigan. He was the only child of Michael and Lena (Stromberger) Birch. In his formative years, William was baptized on August 12, 1945 and later confirmed on May 17, 1959 at Zion Lutheran Church, where he received Christian instruction. He was a 1963 graduate of Airport High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army stationed in Vietnam. William was a honest, hard-working, and dependable individual. He was very shy unless you wanted to talk of sports, especially University of Michigan sports. He was an avid bingo player. For some time he was employed at Monroe Sport Center and then at Monroe Liquor Plaza until becoming disabled due to an auto accident. William M. Birch, age 70 of Monroe, a resident of Marian Place for more than twelve years left this life on February 29, 2016 for Heaven. His passing was preceded by his parents. Cremation has taken place and private inurnment of his cremains will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Monroe. Graveside services were under the auspices of Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with his arrangements.
