Obituary of James Evanski

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Joseph Evanski was born in Trenton, Michigan on November 16, 1962. He was one of five children born from the union of the late James Evanski and Dorothy (Kane) Evanski. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maybee also attending the parish school. He then attended Airport High School graduating with the class of 1980. Following graduation he furthered his studies at Hobart where he specialized in welding. James married the former Jan Wickenheiser on May 5, 1984. From this union the couple would share in the birth of two children. James worked in metal fabricating for many years. He worked with Chuck Watson for several years before operating his own firm, Superior Fabricating from 1996-2010. Recently, James was employed by Duogard in Canton, serving as a supervisor. James loved the outdoors. He had a passion for farming and had been active when his children were young with 4-H and Future Farmers of America. He was an avid hunter, fisher, and trapper. James loved spending his time camping near Houghton Lake and Harrison. Family was most important to James. He was proud of his children; and protective whenever he could be of them. His favorite pastime was spoiling the grandchildren whether buying gifts or showing up unannounced with hot chocolate and donuts. James Joseph Evanski, age 53, of Monroe Township, passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2016 at his home. His passing was preceded by his father. To cherish his memory James leaves a daughter: Jennifer (Lance) Tedora of Monroe; a son: James Evanski of Monroe; his mother: Dorothy Evanski of Milan; three grandchildren: Aiden, Evan, and Logan; three sisters; and one brother. Friends may gather from 2:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Rosary service led by Deacon George Cousino will take place at 7:00pm. He will lie in state on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Divine Grace Parish, 9207 Joseph Street in Maybee, from 10:30am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:30am.
