Obituary of William Roop

William (Bill) E. Roop Sr., 68, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at his home after a long battle with cancer with his loving wife by his side. Bill was born in Columbus, Ohio to Arlie Avis Roop and the late Georgia Mae (Treece) Roop; he was a lifelong resident of Monroe and a Monroe High School graduate, Class of 1965. He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Lorey (Petrak) Roop; his father Arlie Roop; sons Joseph Roop and Bill Roop Jr/wife Sherry Roop; daughters Susan Rennie/wife Cathy Chen and Callie Clayton/fiancé Jamie Johnson; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson; and his loving guardian angel dog Button. Bill devoted 37 years to the Ford Motor Company family where he started his career in Quality Control and served the remaining 17 years of his career as a District Committee Man serving the needs of the people on the Ford Woodhaven Stamping Plant, retiring in 2002. As many people know, Bill was an avid Corvette lover and his latest pride and joy was a 1977 mint condition black T-top Corvette. Though Bill loved the summer month, his absolute favorite time of the year was Christmas where he was able to share the season with friends and family at Lorey and Bill's annual Christmas Party. He looked forward to creating a winter wonderland on their property for all to enjoy that included over 30,000 lights each year. Bill relished his quiet time and enjoyed watching shows about forensics and auto auctions. Friends may gather from 10:00am until 12:00pm on Wednesday December 16, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service, 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe (734)241-7070. A Celebration of His life will take place at 12:00pm also at Merkle's with Pastor Rick Massingill of North Monroe Street Church of God officiating. Memorial donations are suggested to the Monroe Humane Society.
