Obituary of James David Wood
James David Wood was born on October 30, 1948, in Monroe, Michigan. The only son, he was one of three children born from the union of Amos Wood and Marjorie (Spain) Wood. He attended Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 1966. To provide for his family Jim was a plumber/pipefitter for many years in Monroe. He was a proud member of the UA Plumber and Pipefitters Local 671 from 1967-1996, In 1996, he started employment at Ford Motor Company in Monroe and was a member of the UAW Local 723 until his retirement in September 2010.
On April 3, 1970, at the First Wesleyan Church, Jim married the love of his life, the former Becky Kay Bowling. Together the couple were blessed with the birth of two beautiful daughters: Jennifer and Joey. Jim and Becky shared similar interests from bowling at the Monroe Sports Center to watching reruns of Two and a Half Men.
Jim had a true love for restoring cars and attending car shows and was most proud of his restored 1958 Chevrolet Corvette and 1937 Packard. Jim loved woodcarving and carved animals for his family and made roses out of copper with the help of his grandson, Tobin. He was the official Halloween pumpkin painter for his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Jim had a special place in his heart for his two fur babies: Patches the terrier mix and Loki the Shih Tzu yorkie mix. Jim never met a stranger; he was always willing to lend a helping hand and was loved by many.
James David “Jim” Wood, age 76 of Monroe passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday; November 12, 2024, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. His passing was preceded by his parents: Amos and Marjorie Wood and a sister: Joann Hutter.
To cherish Jim’s memory, he leaves his loving wife of fifty-four years: Becky Kay Wood of Monroe; two daughters: Jennifer (Thomas) McIntyre and Joey Becker both of Monroe; a sister: Janice “Bunnie” (Joseph) Bacarella of LaSalle; four grandchildren: Bryce Payment, Trinity (Austin) Kipfmiller, Ethan McIntyre, and Tobin Becker; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather for a time of fellowship to share and remember on Saturday; December 7, 2024, from 12:00pm until 4:00pm at the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 671; 309 Detroit Avenue, Monroe, Michigan 48162. His care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. Cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc.
