Some knew her as Ryan, some as Jen when she first transitioned, but I knew her as Aria. Aria was a smart, kind, funny and loving woman. Despite her internal struggles that came with being transgender, she always carried herself confidently and proudly. She never failed to make me smile and laugh, and I will cherish those moments and look back on them fondly. Our time together was short lived, however I will remember her always as a goofy, nerdy, and admirable person. May she rest in peace and finally be free to be herself.

Jen Dettloff was a wonderful woman, beautiful inside and out. She brought smiles and laughter wherever she went with her sassy and silly sense of humor. She was deeply caring, which influenced her interest in politics and social change. She was vocal about her beliefs in equality, human rights, and transgender rights. She fearlessly lived as her true and authentic self, unashamed. She loved science fiction, especially Star Trek, and believed one day humanity could reach that kind of a bright and promising future. Jen will be deeply missed by everyone whose life she touched, and I will never forget her love and kindness. Rest in peace, Jen.
