Obituary of Veda Dawn Tyler

Please share a memory of Veda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Veda Dawn Steih was born on September 9, 1946, in Adrian, Michigan. She was one of five girls born to the union of Richard Otto Steih and Mary Eva (Schmidt) Steih. Veda attended Summerfield High School in Petersburg, Michigan graduating with the class of 1964.  She would further her education at Monroe County Community College.

On August 21, 1965, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ida, Michigan, Veda married the love of her life, David Tyler.  The couple was blessed with the birth of five children and together they enjoyed fifty-five years of marriage.  Veda and David enjoyed traveling together and nearly accomplished their goal of visiting all fifty states.

To help provide for her family Veda was employed at Cabela’s in Dundee, working in sales.  For more than eleven years she was instrumental in opening other stores, retiring in 2011. Prior to gaining employment at Cabela’s she worked for the family roofing company and the Monroe County Library System where she developed a love for reading.  She often could be seen reading books on a multitude of different topics.

Veda was a faithful and devoted member of the Dundee United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women (UWM) and the Caring and Sharing group handing out food and commodities to those in need.  She also volunteered at New Beginnings at East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church.  She loved to sew and crochet and enjoyed making baby quilts for families.  Veda was known for her loving and caring personality.  She was kindhearted, making many lifelong friends from her experiences in high school, church, to the senior center.  She was often described by her friends as their “best friend.”

Veda’s true passion in life was spending time with her family and grandchildren whom she loved dearly.  Game night was one of her favorite pastimes and she loved a spirited game of Yahtzee or Uno.  She also enjoyed watching all her grandchildren compete in their sporting events.

Veda Dawn Tyler, age 78 of Dundee passed away peacefully at home on Monday; October 14, 2024, under the care of Arbor Hospice and surrounded by her loving family.  Her passing was preceded by her parents: Richard and Mary Steih; her husband: David Tyler on March 8, 2021; a grandson: Dustin Tyler on December 1, 2021; and a brother-in-law: Todd Karner.
