Frederick Nabozny was born in Detroit, Michigan to the union of William and Helen (Tomaszewski) Nabozny on January 30, 1940. After graduating high school, Fred dedicated himself to his work as a truck driver for PVS Chemical, where he became a familiar face on the roads of Detroit. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Helen Szurek, and together they raised six wonderful children, creating a legacy of love and family that will endure for generations to come. Their relationship stood the test of time for more than six decades.

Fred’s playful spirit was reflected in the special nicknames he crafted for all his loved ones. A storyteller at heart, he enjoyed sharing his adventures with anyone who would listen, captivating audiences with his humor and charm. He cherished spending time with his family, frequently traveling to support his children in all their pursuits. His pride only grew as he welcomed grandchildren into his life, attending their baseball, basketball, football, and car racing events with unwavering enthusiasm.

In retirement, Fred discovered his passion for golf, achieving a remarkable milestone when he scored his first hole in one at the age of 80 at the Dundee Golf Course. He was also an avid sports fan, rarely missing a horse race or game on television. A lover of games and competition, he enjoyed playing cards and craps, always bringing joy and lively camaraderie to family gatherings.

Frederick Nabozny, affectionately known as Frisco Freddie and The Dandy from Dundee, passed away at home on Thursday; October 10, 2024, at the age of 84. He was under the care of Elara Caring Hospice and surrounded by his loving family. His passing was preceded by his parents: William and Helen Nabozny and a sister: Delphine.

Fred leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife of sixty-four years: Helen Nabozny; his children: Laurie (Greg) Turner, Lana (Scott) Blagec, Lance (Courtney) Nabozny, Lisa Nabozny, Pete (Tracie) Nabozny, and Lynn Marie (Neal) Kibler; beloved sister Connie Slomba; along with a full roster of twelve grandchildren: Scott, Brad, Brett, Hannah, Eliot, Andrew, Aaron, Victoria, Hope, Adam, Braden, and Paisleigh; and his three great-grandchildren: Addison, Emmerson, and Willow who will carry forward the stories of their legendary great-grandfather.

Fred will lie in state from 10:00am until 11:00am on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at St. Irene Catholic Church; 576 East Main Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131. A Mass of the Resurrection will begin in the church at 11:00am. Procession will then follow to Maple Grove cemetery in Dundee for burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Fred's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, a cause he cared deeply about. Online guests may leave words of inspiration and comfort or share a photo by visiting www.merklefs.com.
