Obituary of Donald Lee Treharne
Donald Lee Treharne was born on August 23, 1948, in Youngstown, Ohio. He was born to Maynard and Carolyn (Eckles) Treharne. Don has two siblings born from the union of Lewis Gerlach and Carolyn (Eckles). Don graduated from Brookpark High School. He then earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Eastern Michigan University. He was gainfully employed through the State of Michigan, first as a teacher at the Maxey Boys Training Schools at the Juvenile Youth Detention Center. After the center closed, he was assigned to teach GED courses at the Jackson Prison, and remained there until 2016, when he retired.
Don was a loyal, avid fan of all sports teams from the state of Ohio but was especially fond of the Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns football team. Beyond his passion for Ohio sports, Donald developed a unique interest in Dundee wrestling, He supported Dundee Vikings Wrestling Team since the 1980’s. Donald also found great joy in collecting antiques and porcelain plates. His home was a curated gallery of vintage finds. Auctions and yard sales were his treasure hunts, places where he could discover hidden gems and add to his ever-growing collection. His knowledge of history, particularly World War II, added depth to his collecting hobby, as he often sought out items that connected him to the past.
For as long as he could, Donald rode his Honda Shadow motorcycle, feeling the freedom of the open road. At home, Donald’s constant companion was Harley, his long-haired, white fluffy cat. Harley, a fiercely independent feline, had a reputation for being aloof with strangers and even family, but with Donald, a special bond was shared.
Donald Lee Treharne, age 76, of Monroe, passed away at 1:38am, on Wednesday; September 25, 2024, at the Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Adrian. His passing was preceded by his parents.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of almost thirty-seven years: Cindy; six sons: Rexan (Donna) Treharne, Shaun (Maria) Dismuke, Jeremy (Allyson) Treharne, Bryon (Sarah) Treharne, Brandon (Cayla) Treharne, and Todd Treharne; two siblings: Randall (Amanda) Gerlach and Michelle (James) Dempsey; seventeen grandchildren: Nicholas, Abby, Alexis, Shaun, Jr., Brian, Taylor, Michael, Gaberiel, Brooklynn, Wyatt, Castielle, Cole, Aubree, Lyla, Emmalyn, Allayah, and Cayson; and four great grandchildren with one great grandchild due in early December 2024.
His care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee; 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131 (734) 529-3156. Cremation took place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan; a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc. The family will host a celebration of Don’s life on Saturday, October 12 at the Old Mill, 242 Toledo Street, Dundee from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
