Obituary of Geraldine Ann Ortiz
Geraldine Ann Moon was born on June 12, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio to the union of Alfred and Bernedette (Turner) Moon. After graduating from Monroe High School, Geraldine went on to further herself professionally and became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at the former Lutheran Home for nearly two decades. Before becoming too sick to attend, she was very active in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie, Michigan. Her involvement went beyond mere attendance. She participated in the church choir along with staying involved in all the festivals and fundraisers, contributing her time and energy to ensure their success
A mother of five, Geraldine put a tremendous amount of effort into providing for her children. Not only did she work full-time but Geraldine also found creative ways to supplement her income. Geraldine's selflessness extended into every aspect of her life. She was always the first to lend a helping hand, whether it was through her work, her church, or simply being there for a friend in need.
Beyond her professional and spiritual contributions, Geraldine was known for her exceptional baking skills. Her kitchen was a place of joy and delicious creations, where the aroma of freshly baked goods was a constant invitation to family and friends. She was also an integral part of the Lady's Extension Club in Erie, Michigan, where she shared her love for baking and crafts, forming strong bonds with fellow members.
Geraldine Ortiz, a beacon of selfless love and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024, at the age of 82. Her passing was preceded by her parents: Alfred and Bernedette Moon; a sister: Georgene Shock; and a granddaughter Alicia Ortiz.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her adoring children: Anna (Clayton) Lucio, Troy (Cheryl) Ortiz, Brian (Mary) Ortiz, Belinda (Curt) Boyd, and Keith (Vilma) Ortiz; a loving sister: Evelyn Koch; seventeen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; each who will carry forward her legacy of love and selflessness.
Friends may gather on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 12:30pm until 4:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, Erie; 9156 Summit Street, Erie, Michigan 48133 (734) 317-7199. A Celebration of Her Life will immediately follow at 4:00pm also at Merkle’s. Cremation will take place at the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc
