Obituary of David Allen Kelsey

David Allen Kelsey was born in Monroe, Michigan on Christmas Eve 1941.  He was the third of four sons born to Steven Kelsey and Mary (Miller) Kelsey of Belleville, Michigan. Dave met the love of his life, the former Mary Lou Lipinski, while attending Belleville High School. The couple wed on June 30, 1961, and were blessed with three children: Kevin (Julie), Scott (Julie), and Suzanne. They also welcomed special “adopted” son: Harvey Proctor into their family.

Dave was employed as a sales representative in the beverage industry for thirty years. He later accepted a job offer in Charlotte, North Carolina as a contract sales rep. After retiring, Dave took a part-time position caring for men with Alzheimer’s Disease. Throughout his successful sales career, Dave was awarded many trips. He and his wife traveled all over Europe to Paris, France and Copenhagen, Denmark as well as Germany, Austria, and England. They also visited Jamaica and enjoyed the sandy beaches of South Carolina.

In 2019, Dave and Mary Lou returned to their home state of Michigan to be close to their family including grandchildren: Megan and her four children, Ian (Ashley) and their four children, and Graham (Loren) and their daughter. Dave also shared in the lives of his extended family: the Jeffrey (Heather) Blanchett family, the Ashley (Ben) Hanson family, as well as many nieces and nephews.

David Allen Kelsey, age 82, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital on Monday; May 27, 2024. His passing was preceded by his parents; a daughter: Suzanne Kelsey; three brothers; and many in-laws.

A private memorial service is being planned for a later date. David’s care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation, a division of Merkle Enterprises Inc.
