Obituary of Delton Eli Dennis

Delton Eli Dennis, age 102, passed away at his son and daughter-in-law’s home, where he had lived the past seven years, on Sunday; March 10, 2024.

Delton was born on February 26, 1922, in Dundee, Michigan, the son of William Dennis and Edith (Francisco) Dennis.  He grew up in Dundee and completed his education through the 8th grade at the Junction School on Plank Road in Dundee.  Delton joined the United States Navy, serving from October of 1943 until March of 1946 obtaining the rank of Seaman First Class as a gunner during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and Hawaii. 

On July 16, 1949, he married Nadine (Frost) Bolster.  The couple shared 51 years of marriage before her passing on August 9, 2000.  Delton provided for his family through employment at the Chrysler Trenton Engine Plant.  He retired in 1984 after 27.5 years of service. 

He attended St. Paul United Methodist Church in Carleton, Michigan for many years.  Proud of his military service, Delton was a lifetime member of the Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138.

To cherish his memory, Delton leaves his children:  James and Chari (Thornsberry) Dennis and Larry and Pam (Dushane) Dennis; a stepdaughter: Joan (Bolster) Fisher; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife his passing was preceded by his parents; a stepson: Clyde Bolster; a son-in-law: Julius Fisher; his siblings, brother: Norm Dennis, twin sisters: Leola Hogan and Neola Heilser, and sisters: Helen Gondek, and Doris Hoppert.

Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday; March 13, 2024, at Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee; 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131 (734) 529-3156.  A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am on Thursday; March 14, 2024, also at Merkle’s with Chaplain Mark Loudermilk of Heartland Hospice officiating.  Procession will follow to London Township Cemetery for burial where graveside services will be under the auspices of Monroe VFW Post 1138.
