Obituary of Larry Keith Breitner

Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Larry Keith Breitner was born on April 8, 1936, in Petersburg, Michigan. He was one of two sons born from the union of Charles Breitner and Julia (Green) Breitner.  He grew up on the family farm, learning at a young age the value of hard work by cultivating and processing corn, wheat, and beans.  To assist his family in running the farm, his education at Summerfield High School was cut short.

In 1955, Larry married the love of his life, the former Shirley Moore, and the couple was blessed with the birth of three children. They remained happily married until her passing in August of 2021.

Even after leaving the farming business, Larry maintained a side gig of hanging drywall, showcasing his versatile skills. Larry's craftsmanship included repairing window and door screens as a part-time "hobby." His attention to detail and dedication to helping others made him a trustworthy individual, always ready to assist in any way he could.  Later in life, Larry operated a trucking company called LK Breitner and Son Trucking. His entrepreneurial spirit continued to guide him while hauling grain, fertilizer, and steel for local companies, and over time built a reputation as a reliable and trusted hauler.

Outside of work, Larry found joy in pursuing his passions. He was a proud member of the Antique Tractor Club, where he reveled in preserving and showcasing the machinery of yesteryear.  Camaraderie was important to Larry, and he cherished his time socializing with his fellow Euchre and Cribbage enthusiasts in the "Odd Fellows of Dundee." He also found great company among the local Dundee veterans, with whom he would often engage in a friendly card game or two.

Larry Keith Breitner, age 87 of Dundee, passed away at home under the care of Elara Caring Hospice at 5:56pm on Thursday; September 28, 2023. His passing was preceded by his parents; a brother: Charles; and his wife of sixty-six years: Shirley.

To cherish his memory, he leaves three children: Kim (Marshall) Haskins, Lisa Breitner, and Keith Breitner; three grandchildren: Tyson Dickert, Ryan (Jess) Haskins, and Jamie Haskins; and three great grandchildren.
