Obituary of Veronica Fay Fowler

Please share a memory of Veronica to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Veronica Fay Salyer was born on November 6, 1949, in South Bend, Indiana. She was the oldest of three children born from the union of Emory Cain and Gladys (Arnett) Salyer.  She obtained her education at Markleville High School, graduating with the class of 1968.

Veronica's journey led her to a fateful encounter with the love of her life in an Anderson, Indiana biker clubhouse more than five decades ago, more specifically 20,556 days ago. From the moment they met, their connection was destined to be something special. Just two days later, they embarked on their first date at the drive-in movie theatre, each brimming with confidence as they proudly declared to their friends that they would one day be wed.

Her true passion in life was teaching children, and she pursued it with unwavering dedication. Recognizing the importance of education, she began volunteering every day, immersing herself in the classroom to witness firsthand the lessons being taught. Her goal was to continue and reinforce the teaching of the young minds she encountered, ensuring that learning extended beyond the confines of a school building.

Described by many as the epitome of patience and compassion, Veronica approached every situation with kindness and understanding. Her soul was anchored by her faith, and before becoming a mother, she actively engaged in her Christian community, teaching Sunday school and creating lasting memories during church camps. In fact, instead of opting for a typical vacation, Veronica and Daniel participated and attended the church camps.

Above all, Veronica was known for her selflessness and willingness to go without so that others could have. She approached life with a heart full of sacrifice, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her ability to touch lives through her acts of kindness and generosity will forever be remembered as a testament to her character.

Veronica Fay Fowler, age 73, of Luna Pier, passed away unexpectedly at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday; August 13, 2023.  Her passing was preceded by her parents and many aunts and uncles.

To cherish her memory, she leaves a beloved husband of fifty-four years: Daniel; two sons: Chris (Lindsay) Fowler and Jon Fowler (Amber Adkins); a daughter: Heather Simmons; a sister: Devona Hines; a brother: Michael (Wyetta) Salyer; and nine grandchildren: Ryan, Carmen, Brett, Carson, Gavin, Katie, Grace, Jackson, and Zoey.

No public services are planned.  Her care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. Cremation will take place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
