Obituary of Dolores M Tarry

Please share a memory of Dolores to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dolores M. Thomas was born on January 23, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio. She was the daughter of Chellis B. Thomas and Bernadine (Larrick) Thomas. Dolly, as she would be commonly known, attended, and graduated with the class of 1946, from Woodward High School in Toledo, Ohio.

One of Dolly’s greatest passions was her love of sports, particularly whatever her seven sons played. She wore their team colors with pride, and her vibrant enthusiasm made her an unforgettable presence in the stands. In fact, Dolly was not just any fan; she was once named Fan of the Year for her unmatched dedication and remarkable spirit. Her contagious excitement even spread among fellow parents and spectators, creating a joyful atmosphere at every game.

Dolly and her husband, Donavon, dedicated an astounding twenty years of their lives as scout leaders. They recognized the importance of building character and nurturing the potential of young minds. The duo poured their hearts into guiding and mentoring countless children, instilling in them values of teamwork, resilience, and leadership.

Dolly lived life with an unrivaled spirit, always seeking adventure and spending countless hours on her husband's boat, the "Satin Doll”, where she would cast a line and patiently wait for the perfect catch. Dolly and Don also embarked on numerous adventures together, traveling across the globe from Europe to Australia and even to the picturesque shores of Hawaii. Their wanderlust led them to explore new cultures, taste diverse cuisines, and create cherished memories that endured for a lifetime.

Above anything, Dolly enjoyed spending quality time with her family. Dolly’s greatest joy in life came from gathering her extensive family together, with Thanksgiving being her favorite event. Her warm and inviting home was transformed into a refuge of love, laughter, and was filled with the heartwarming aroma of a feast prepared with care and tenderness. Year after year, she effortlessly hosted upwards of sixty family members.  Dolores had a remarkable knack for making each person feel special, and her love knew no bounds.
