Obituary of Jeremy Matthew Wood
Jeremy Matthew Wood was born in Monroe, Michigan, on July 28, 1971. He was the oldest of three children born from the union of William Dale Wood and Lenore Janet (Wellhousen) Wood. Jeremy attended Trinity and Holy Ghost Lutheran grade schools where his love of basketball blossomed. He attended Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 1989. High school was an exceptionally pivotal time in Jeremy’s life. Being very goal-oriented, he took a co-op position at Detroit Stoker as a draftsman, which shaped his future career aspirations. During this time, Jeremy also met his future bride, Dawn Renee Marlow, when she attended his graduation party. The couple was joined in holy matrimony on September 10, 1993, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was a lifelong learner beginning his education at Monroe County Community College and completing his Associate of Science degree in Industrial and Product Design at Henry Ford Community College. He later attended University of Michigan, Dearborn, and Central Michigan University to obtain his Bachelor of Science Business Administration and Management degree.
Jeremy spent his career working in the automotive industry in several different capacities. He was a Product Engineer for Gissing, Product Design Engineer for Autoneum, and a Design Engineer for Collins and Aikman. Since November he had been employed by Carcoustics TCNA Inc. as a Serial Development Engineer. He was well-respected and loved both because of his mind and his strong work ethic. He created many close friends along the way.
Jeremy was a dedicated husband and a wonderful, proud father. He loved to go for long walks with Dawn after work, ride bikes with his children, and visit national parks. Much like his mother, he enjoyed cooking and baking and was a huge University of Michigan sports fan. Jeremy’s father instilled a love for working on cars and doing home repairs. Jeremy was also passionate about bird watching, especially the red-bellied woodpecker, and deer watching in his meticulously maintained backyard.
Jeremy and Dawn had a special bond and loved their Lord. Along with their children, they quietly ministered to others who were downtrodden.
Jeremy was diagnosed with metastatic bile duct cancer in December 2022. He had an amazing support system of his family, neighbors, work teammates, and friends by his side. Dawn considered it an honor to be able to provide his around-the-clock care in his last few weeks. He was so grateful for everyone’s help and kindness.
Jeremy Matthew Wood, age 51, of Monroe passed from this life into eternal glory on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. He was in his home, surrounded by his family and under the care of St. Croix Hospice. His passing was preceded by Larry Marlow, his father-in-law; Elaine Brown, his aunt and Godmother; and his grandparents.
To cherish his memory he leaves his best friend and beloved wife of nearly thirty years: Dawn Wood of Monroe; two children: Alexis Dawn Wood and Spencer Jeremy Wood both of Monroe; his parents: William “Bill” and Lenore Wood of Monroe; a brother: Jason Wood of Monroe; a sister: Sarah Ryan of Monroe; his mother-in-law: Linda Marlow-Harper (Rich Harper) of Monroe; three sisters-in-law: Rebecca “Becky” Marlow of Monroe, Amy (Kyle) Reau of Metamora, Illinois, and Jennifer (Eric) Wolfenbarger of Ida; two brothers-in-law: Larry (Anna) Marlow Jr. of Ida and Richard Marlow of Monroe; his uncle and Godfather: Howard Wellhousen of Monroe; two Godsons: Ian Wellhousen and Athen Wolfenbarger; and thirteen nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather from 11:00am until 2:00pm on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 2:00pm with his friend, Reverend Jason Shaw, officiating. Procession will follow to St. Paul Cemetery in Maybee for burial.
