Barbara Mazur

Obituary of Barbara Mazur

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Barbara Bond was born on June 15, 1941, in Monroe, Michigan. She was one of four children born from the union of Walter and Goldie (Sampson) Bond.

Barbara wore many hats in her lifetime. Following high school, she obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificate at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit and then later became a respiratory therapist.   Barbara was best known however by her role as the executive director of the Frenchtown Senior Center. In this role she played an essential part in providing services to the aged in our community.   Very well respected, Barbara was once awarded the Businesswoman of the Year.

On January 18, 1962, Barbara married the love of her life: Robert Mazur. Together the couple was blessed with the birth of four children.  For several years she taught religious education classes at her parish, St. Charles Catholic Church in Newport.  As a woman of strong faith, Barbara knew the value in helping those who couldn’t help themselves.  There were many stories of her generosity from assisting a man in getting a new roof for his home to finding a stove for someone when theirs broke down.

Barbara spent much of her free time knitting. She would painstakingly make hats, socks, gloves, and she even challenged herself in kitting sweaters. In fact, if she saw a project, she would jump on the chance to create it, without any formal lessons. Many of these items were given as cherished gifts to her family and close friends. When she wasn’t creating handmade items, she could be seen flipping the pages of a good read. Barbara would dive into any genre, but historical fiction was her preference to peruse. She often tuned in to watch western shows on her television, with John Wayne being her favorite actor. She would watch anything starring this handsome performer, even if she had seen the episode several times before.

Barbara Mazur, age 81 of Monroe, passed away at Beaumont Heritage Hospital, Taylor on Saturday; February 18, 2023. Her passing was preceded by her parents; and a sister: Margaret Seals.
