Obituary of Roger Bullard
“Last breath on Earth; first breath in Heaven.”
Born March 23, 1948, in Monroe, Roger was the son of Jordan and Audra (Lynch) Bullard. He spent his younger years in McKeesport, Pennsylvania before moving back to Michigan. Roger attended and graduated from Airport High School in 1966. He would continue his education by enrolling in courses at Alma College in Alma, Michigan where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He would later earn a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University.
He married the former Mary Joy Woodrow on February 5, 1971, and they would be blessed with the birth of three children. The happy couple would celebrate nearly fifty-two years together.
Roger dedicated thirty-two years to teaching grades 4-6 at Christiancy Elementary, Monroe Public Schools. Even after many years out of the classroom, he had a gift for remembering his students. After retirement, Roger pursued his love for landscaping by working eight years for Monroe Mercy Memorial Hospital and Sunshine Care Center. Roger was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe. He was an avid sports fan especially following the University of Michigan.
On Friday; December 23, 2022, Roger lost his valiantly fought ten-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a kind and gentle soul who loved his family and welcomed friends with a smile that lit up the room.
Roger is survived by two sons: Benjamin Jordan and Nicholas Allan and his wife Jenina Nunez, a daughter: Elizabeth Grace; and a sister: Rita Jean Bullard. He was preceded in death by an infant brother: Bradley.
Roger’s care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, Erie; 9156 Summit Street, Erie, Michigan 48133 (734) 317-7199. Cremation will take place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation in Erie.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to the Monroe ProMedica Hospice Team and Ebeid Hospice Center for their care of Roger.
