Obituary of John Raphael Duncan
John Raphael Duncan was born on October 28, 1932 in Philadelphia, Mississippi. He was one of ten children born into the Duncan household. He moved to Michigan as a young man.
John was married to the love of his life, the former, LaDonna Ost at St. Irene Catholic Church in Dundee on June 25, 1966. To care for the needs of his family, John took employment at Ford Motor Company. He worked on the assembly line for more than thirty years before retiring in 1987.
John enjoyed watching television with the popular game shows Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud being two of his favorites. He also loved to watch sports whether it was baseball, basketball, football, or hockey; but he favored the Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Tigers the most. He often took casino trips with the Dundee Area Senior Citizens. More than anything in this life John cherished the time spent with family. Many wonderful memories were made traveling to Mississippi with loved ones.
John Raphael Duncan, age 90 of Dundee, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday; December 8, 2022. His passing was preceded by his parents; three brothers: Joe, Leonard, and Al; and six sisters: Jean, Rita, Peggy, Tab, Eva and Zita.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his loving wife of fifty-six years: LaDonna Duncan of Dundee; a precious daughter: Kathy Phipps of Dundee; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather on Monday; December 12, 2022 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee; 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131 (734) 529-3156. He will lie in state on Tuesday; December 13, 2022 from 10:00am until 11:00am at St. Irene Catholic Church; 576 East Main Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131. The Mass of the Resurrection will take place at 11:00am with Father Jerry Cupple, as celebrant. Procession will follow to Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee for burial.
