Obituary of Kenneth Eugene Kavanagh

Kenneth Eugene Kavanagh, age 64 of Monroe, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 at his home. He is preceded in death by his father; Eugene Gregory Kavanagh and his mother; Margaret Francis (Cowan) Kavanagh.

Kenny was born on May 18, 1953 in Detroit Michigan. He was the only son born to Margret and Eugene, they had a house full of daughters. Kenny became a resident of Monroe County when he was 20 years old.

Early in his career, Kenny worked for his father’s auto body shop where he learned the family business. He was also later joined by his nephew and friend; Gregory Moore Sr., where they worked side by side for several years. He stayed employed in the automotive industry for nearly 40 years.

When Kenny was a young boy, his grandfather; Bill Fillion, taught him the skill of hunting to provide for himself off the land. Kenny then took those skills and passed them down to his nephews; Christopher Moore & Gregory Moore Jr. Kenny spoke fondly of his time spent with his nephews and always looked forward to future trips to Northern Michigan. Kenny also enjoyed hunting, fishing and the camaraderie shared with lifelong friends; Mickey Balant, Jim Mang Sr., Charlie Reed, Dave Goodman, and others over the years.

Kenny is remembered by his family as a hardworking man, fun, loving, laid back, and a friend to all. Kenny will be remembered fondly by his son: Andrew Ouellette (Tonya) of Florida; his daughter: Rebecca Bradley of Detroit; five sisters: Elizabeth Ann Kavanagh of Parma, Ohio, Pamela Dee Kavanagh of Sylvania, Ohio, Kathy Lynn Kavanagh of Ann Arbor, Debra Jean Shaw (Michael) of Ludington, Jeanie DeFranco of Ohio, as well as two grandsons, three nephews, four nieces, four great nieces, three great nephews, and they all loved him VERY much.

A Celebration of Life for Kenneth will be held from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm on August 26, 2017 at Indian Trails Club House, 3519 Iroquois Trail, Monroe MI 48162. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe (734)384-5185.
