Obituary of Arthur David Bomia III

Please share a memory of Arthur to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Arthur David “Art” Bomia III was born July 20, 1942, in Monroe, Michigan. He was one of three sons born to the union of Arthur Bomia Jr and Helen (Gerweck)Bomia.  Art attended Jefferson High School in Newport, Michigan where he later worked as a custodian for over 3 decades before his retirement and was a lifetime member of the National Education Association.

Art was well known for his volunteerism and considered as a Man of Service in the Monroe Community. He never said no to anyone who needed help. He had a beautiful sense of humor and was always willing to joke around with people and bring a smile to their face. To know Art was to love Art.

He was a lifelong member of St. Anne’s Parish where he was a member of the Men’s Club, a Eucharistic Minister, an usher and sat on the parish council.

The Boy Scouts of America welcomed Art into the organization at the age of Thirteen. Throughout his life, he earned numerous accolades and merits. For generations, Art has influenced the youth of Monroe County by sharing his time and talents on a personal basis. For decades, he interacted with the youth and encouraged them to advance. Acting as the coordinator for Scouting for Food since it began, Art has literally sent tons of food to the food closets of Monroe County. His leadership at the Fair Service Troop for well over forty years has established memories and bonds of friendships for hundreds of Scouts. In 2010 Art was honored at the Running Waters District, Great Sauk Trail Council Distinguished Scouter Award Dinner. Art was a member of the Order of the Arrow, an elite group within the Boy Scouts and enjoyed Boy Scout camping trips and being the historian for his troop. Art was a founding member and then a troop leader of the Boy Scout Troop 597 where he remained very active until his passing.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1266, becoming a knight on March 1, 1968, and has been an active member ever since. He served as an officer of Council 1266 for more than fifty years for the 3rd degree. He joined the River Raisin Assembly #0488 on February 1, 1970. He has been Color Corp for forty-seven years with the 4th degree and has been associated with various other tasks at the hall as well as being a familiar face at several street corners selling Goodfellow papers and Tootsie Rolls for the organization.

Art had also participated as a Big Brother with the Big Brother/Big Sister organization sponsoring six different “littles”; and assisted with Euchre tournaments at the Frenchtown Senior Center and Monroe Center for Healthy Living.

Arthur David “Art” Bomia III age 81 of Monroe, Michigan passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday June 24, 2024. His passing was preceded by his parents, Arthur and Helen Bomia and his brother, Timothy Bomia.
