Obituary of Phoebe Ann Moore
Phoebe Ann Miles was born on February 12, 1944, in Monroe, Michigan. She was the only daughter of three children born to the union of Charles Shelby Miles and Cora Lee (Friar) Miles. Phoebe began her education at the Papermill One-Room School for first, second, and part of third grade. She then switched to Dundee Community Schools, graduating high school with the class of 1962. She continued her education at the Michigan College of Beauty.
Phoebe owned and operated the Budget Beauty Bar, on First Street between the Monroe Evening News and South Monroe Street. She married Kenneth Lee Moore on April 11, 1964, at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. The couple was blessed with three children. After 16 years, she left the shop to care for the needs of her family, although she eventually returned to the workforce taking a position with La-Z-Boy as an advertising supervisor for 19 additional years before her retirement in 1998. From 1966 until 2009, Phoebe was often called upon as a hairdresser for Bennett and Rupp Funeral Homes. After retiring, Phoebe and Ken moved to Reed City, where they made their home a log cabin for eight years.
“Phoebes” was a whole lot of spunk and all of the good stuff packed into a small package of beautiful human. To know her was to love her. If you heard her say, “Gimme some sugar,” you knew she was waiting to share a warm hug and a kiss.
She never met a stranger, never arrived empty handed, always had a recipe and a story, rarely missed a ballgame, never lacked a pile of grandchild (and great-grandchild!) photos (which she could produce on-demand) and enjoyed all the local restaurants and her regular outings with friends. She supported her country and its veterans with passion and above all; she loved her family fiercely. She was loved by all who had the good fortune to know her.
Phoebe Ann Moore, age 80 of Monroe passed away on Saturday; May 4, 2024, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital where she was surrounded by her heartbroken family. She will be missed today and forever, though loved ones have been gifted the blessing of wonderful memories of times with her and a life well-lived. During her final illnesses she was remarkably cared for with compassion by the team at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital, 2 South, and the Moore Family is forever grateful. Her passing was preceded by her parents; a beloved son: Todd Moore in 2004 and a brother: Paul Miles at the age of 18.
