Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joseph Palka was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 30, 1943. He was one of two sons born from the union of Joseph C. Palka and Constance (Olesko) Palka. He graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn with the class of 1961. For more than twenty years, he was gainfully employed as a welder for the Great Lakes Steel company until he retired in 1995.

Joseph was a passionate sportsman, finding joy in playing softball in summer leagues and occasionally bowling, as well as playing hockey well into his adult years. As an avid fan of the Detroit Tiger baseball team and the Detroit Red Wings Hockey team, Joseph cheered for a win with unwavering loyalty, particularly admiring Steve Yzerman and Gordie Howe.

In addition to his love for sports, Joseph cherished his time boating the waters of Lake Erie, often with company but also finding solace in solo outings. He was known for his kind heart, always willing to offer a helping hand and give the shirt off his back to those in need. Not only did he enjoy the camaraderie of the Elks and Moose Lodges, but he also demonstrated his care for others by supporting children’s charities such as St. Jude’s.
