Obituary of Mary Frances Lambert

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Frances Jacobs was born on June 5, 1927, in Monroe, Michigan. She was the second eldest of six children born from the union of Dody and Martha (Gaynier) Jacobs. Mary attended St. John Grade School, and at the age of just 13, she joined the workforce employed in the laundry room at the IHM in Monroe.

Mary was wed to the love of her life, Ethern Lambert on February 27, 1943, when she was 15.   The next year the couple welcomed a daughter, Judith into the world and two years later a son, Douglas.   Mary and her children had a special bond and remained extremely close throughout her life.   She continued employment working as the Head Cashier for Wrigley’s Grocer (Allied Food Company) for thirty-five years.

A talented knitter, she created beautiful afghans and gifted them to family and friends. She was also skilled at ceramics and enjoyed attending and selling her wares at craft shows, with her work becoming well-known in the local community.   The Lambert family loved to spend time at their Alpena cabin where she could be found relaxing in the sun.   Although, she preferred to leave the hunting and fishing to others, Mary was a wonderful cook and more than happy to prepare a family meal with the fresh catch; birthdays being her favorite there was always cake and ice cream.

Mary looked forward to shopping for Christmas gifts with her daughter every year.  Throughout her life she had acquired a collection of more than 200 Precious Moments figurines, and she read just as many mystery novels.   They brought her so much joy.   She shared a smile with anyone that crossed her path.  A stylish woman, she drove a gold Cadillac with her hair back combed into a perfect up-do.   Full of personality, a stroke and cancer survivor she found a way to persevere despite her own setbacks.    In her final days at Elderly Solutions, she welcomed visitors and earned the adoration of the nursing staff.  She was wonderful company and generous with her time, always there to listen or perfectly satisfied to do and say nothing at all. Mary loved children and especially doted on her grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “Gran”.

Mary Frances Lambert, age 95, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Friday; August 26, 2022 under the care of Elara Caring Hospice.   Her passing was preceded by her parents, her husband of sixty-two years: Ethern in 2004; a son: Douglas in 2021; grandson:  Craig in 1985; and six siblings:  Joanna, James, Gene, Glen, Edward, and Edwin.
