Obituary of Danita Gail Hollingsworth
Danita Gail Standifer was born in Monroe, Michigan on January 11, 1959. She was the daughter of Elmer Waymon Standifer and Naomi Gwendell (Ellison) Standifer.
On October 22, 1976, while still in high school, she married John Hollingsworth in Monroe, Michigan. She continued her education graduating with the Class of 1977 from Monroe High School.
For more than twenty years, Danita, was employed by Monroe Public Schools in food service. She was a familiar, smiling face to many students and faculty as the food cashier and clerk.
Danita was polite and uplifting, and was supportive and encouraging to all of those around her. She was constantly putting the needs of others ahead of her own. Danita loved holidays and family get-togethers and she was a fabulous host whether cooking or entertaining. She loved cookouts and playing euchre in the backyard surrounded by loved ones. She and her mother were partners in crime they could often be found at the casino playing Blazing 7’s slot machines. Keeping everyone healthy and happy were her major goals in life.
Danita enjoyed visiting Tennessee to spend time with extended family. It was here that she also enjoyed fishing.
Danita Gail Hollingsworth, age 63, of Monroe passed away at home on Monday; February 7, 2022 under the care of Elara Caring Hospice. Her passing was preceded by her mother: Naomi Gwendell Standifer; brother: Roger Standifer; and her mother and father-in-law: Joyce Marlene and Jack Hollingsworth.
To cherish her memory she leaves her beloved husband of forty-five years: John Hollingsworth of Monroe; a daughter: Kasey (Steve) Banek of Monroe; a son: Jeffrey Hollingsworth of Monroe; her father: Elmer Standifer of Monroe; three cherished grandchildren: Alyssa and Tyler Banek and Mason Hollingsworth; her sister: Deborah Davis of Ludington; a brother: Earl (Tina) Standifer of Monroe; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday; February 14, 2022 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe. Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday; February 15, 2022 also at Merkle’s with Pastor Roy Southerland officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
