Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Louise Hall was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 17, 1954.   She was one of seven children born from the union of Evan “Frank” and Barbara (Henry) Hall Jr.   Her father was employed as an Assistant Sports Editor for the Grand Rapids Press.   Mary earned her Bachelor’s degree and had even completed classes towards her Master’s degree.

She took employment with the State of Michigan as a Corrections Officer.   Her career would span more than twenty years as she would work at the Ionia Correctional Facility and the Jackson State Prison.   Mary obtained the rank of Lieutenant prior to her retiring in 1999.

She would marry Thomas Hartwick and the couple would be blessed with one daughter:  Catherine.   As a young woman, Mary observed her mother working in the family-owned bakery, piquing her interest in cooking.   She became a talented chef in her own right. Inspired by cooking shows, Mary was not afraid to experiment in the kitchen and often shopped for exotic ingredients. She enjoyed getting lost in fiction novels and often increased her historical knowledge reading about World War II or watching documentaries on television. A tough but honest lady, Mary was gracious and kind at heart.
