Obituary of Dorothy J. Mullins

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dorothy Jean Randall was born on June 26, 1953, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.   She was one of seven children born from the union of Loyal C. and Anna M. (Harper) Randall.   Shortly after birth, Dorothy’s family would move to LaSalle. She would attend Monroe Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1971 from Monroe High School.   She then continued her education at the Northwest Ohio School of Practical Nursing and Mercy School of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse.   Dorothy went on to study at the University of Toledo obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree and later her Master’s Degree in Nursing Science from the University of Phoenix.

Dorothy was highly respected among her peers and held various positions at local hospitals including being the past Director of Nursing for Mercy Memorial Nursing Center and taught classes through Henry Ford Community College.

Dorothy had many gifts and was a fast learner teaching herself to crochet, quilt, and create paper arts. She would teach classes in quilting, sewing, and the Cricuit machine at JoAnn Fabrics.   Dorothy was an avid quilter, sometimes creating upwards of 20 quilts at one time to donate to local organizations providing her handmade designs to families at the Mott’s Children’s Hospital.   Dorothy also would make quilts for her family and especially for her grandchildren.

She loved to spend time travelling with her husband, Richard, often finding quilting shops while on these jaunts to visit grandchildren or just to relax.   The couple shared a love for music singing together in the church choir.   Dorothy had a dry sense of humor and appreciated the value of a one-liner to surprise and delight everyone.

Dorothy Jean Mullins, age 68, of Westland passed away St. Mary’s Hospital, Livonia.   Her passing was preceded by both of her parents; three brothers: Stuart Randall, Larry Randall, and Gordon Randall; infant twins; and her grandparents.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her loving husband: Richard; three children: Mike LeBrun, Jr., Matthew (Nichole) LeBrun and Michelle (James) Fletcher; three sisters: Shirley Valicenti, Carol (Wayne) Cooper, Donna Petruso; and twelve grandchildren.
