Obituary of Eunice Elaine Jones
Eunice Elaine Jepperson was born on July 8, 1947 in Evansville, Indiana. She was the youngest of two girls born from the union of Floyd Jepperson, a Southern Baptist Pastor, and Leone (Burbank) Jepperson. She attended Iowa West High School in Waterloo, Iowa graduating with the class of 1965. She then continued her education at Allen Lutheran School of Nursing also in Waterloo.
Eunice married Rexford Gerald “Rex” Jones Jr. at the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Waterloo, Iowa on August 1, 1970. The couple had met at the Moody Bible College in Chicago where they were both attending. Eunice loved the Lord, and she took the opportunity to share her faith every chance she could. When the couple began dating, Eunice, was sure to “require” that they canvas the neighborhood with tracts to share the Gospel before the date could even begin.
They would make their home in Orlando, Florida and she would serve with Campus Crusade for Christ for eighteen years. The family moved from Orlando to Monroe in 1995. Rex took over the pastorate at Bethany Baptist Church and Eunice was supportive in many roles. She loved to sing and play the piano and participated with the worship team and choir. Eunice also served as a Bible Study teacher and worked with AWANA. She enjoyed the camaraderie of her church lady’s groups, the Red Hat Society, and the Golden Girls.
She was employed for 20 years as a registered nurse first with the IHM and then with Mercy Memorial Hospital and ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital retiring in 2017.
Eunice had a heart for evangelizing and had recently returned from a medical mission trip to Guatemala. She was very outgoing, passionate, and strong-willed. She enjoyed working in the yard and gardening in her backyard oasis tending painstakingly to her vegetables and flowers. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren, loving them unconditionally. She cherished the time spent with her family with bargain shopping being a favorite pastime. Eunice was a picker and had passed her love of garage saleing onto her grandchildren.
Eunice Elaine Jones, age 74, of Monroe passed away at 1:16am on Friday; October 29, 2021 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. Her passing was preceded by her parents and a sister: Esther Stewart.
To cherish her memory she leaves her beloved husband of fifty-one years: Rex Jones Jr. of Monroe; four children: Debbie (James) Harsh of Monroe, Gerry Jones of Monroe, Tim (Sarah) Jones of Palm Coast, Florida, and Heidi (Jeff) Simmons of Monroe; nine grandchildren: Audrey, Trevor, Caleb, and Daniel Jones and Noah, Mason, Micah, Mariah, and Marissa Simmons.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday; November 1, 2021 at Bethany Eagles Nest Community Church, 2740 Nadeau Road, Monroe, Michigan 48162. A memorial service celebrating her life will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday; November 2, 2021 also at the church. Her son, Pastor Timothy Jones, of Epic Church in Palm Coast, Florida will officiate. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall for all of those in attendance.
