Margie Richards

Obituary of Margie Lois Richards

Please share a memory of Margie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margie Lois Scott was born on March 22, 1931 in Monroe.  She was one of eleven children born from the union of William Scott and Gladys Cordrey.   Margie married the love of her life: Jerome Richards on January 10, 1953.  Together for over 68 years!  She was a member of St. Anne Parish for over 60 years.

In her earlier years, Margie would look forward each spring to planting a garden.   She enjoyed preserving the fresh produce from her garden so that her family could enjoy home grown vegetables all year round.   Planting a flower garden was also on her list of “chores”.   One of her favorite flowers was, “Bells of the Lord”.

Above anything, Margie treasured the time she could spend with her family, especially looking forward to the “pierogi fest”.   This all-day event would result in the creation of more than five hundred polish style filled dumplings for the family to eat and freeze for future meals.   The family also enjoyed their soup cook offs.   These events featured taste testing and voting amongst those in attendance with the winner receiving the coveted, ”Soup Ladle” prize.  Margie played an integral role in the lives of her grandchildren with several conveniently living just a few houses away.   She was also a great cook and baker.   Her family appreciated her skills and were eager for Christmas cookies and Easter almond danish.

Margie was an avid Detroit Tiger Baseball fan, with her favorite Tiger being that of “vintage” Al Kaline. In the past, she belonged to a few card clubs, mostly playing euchre.   One club contained her girlfriends and the other comprised Margie, Jerry, and other couples.

Margie was always known, especially by her family as a very strong woman and a fighter. She had been through a lot in her life, but she never gave up and persevered.
