Obituary of Cody Alexander Long
Cody Alexander Long was born on December 30, 1993 in Monroe, Michigan. He was the son of Douglas Long and Jacqueline (Jewell) Long. Even as a young child, it was quite evident that Cody was a “social butterfly”. He never met a stranger and in fact could strike up a conversation with anyone. Cody would attend Monroe High School.
Cody enjoyed nothing more than a peaceful day casting a line. He spent countless hours along the shores of Lake Erie, and whenever he could visit his father in West Virginia, they were sure to spend some time fishing together. Cody was extremely handy and could seemingly fix just about anything. He often brought home broken bicycles and “chopper” minibikes to repair and did happily performed odd jobs for his grandparents. As an animal lover, he could never pass up an opportunity to play with a dog or cat. Cody also enjoyed playing video games and poker with his friends. He also loved watching basketball and playing basketball with his neighborhood friends.
Cody Alexander Long, age 27, of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. He was preceded in death by his great grandmother: Dorothy Mae Johnson, paternal grandfather: James E. Long, uncle: Dale Schneider, and feline companion, “Tiger”.
To cherish his memory, Cody, leaves his mother: Jacqueline Long; father: Douglas Long; a son: Carter Alexander; maternal grandparents: Gary and Susan Jewell; paternal grandmother: Judy Long; six aunts: Jeannette (Wayne) Maddox, Dr. Joyce (James) Thompson, Jayne Jewell, Judy (William) Long, Jill Jewell, and Jodi Schneider; two uncles: James Long Jr. and Brian (Shannon) Long; and many cousins.
Friends may gather on Sunday; April 11, 2021 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 5:00 pm also at Merkle’s. Pastor Mark Ordus of Monroe Free Methodist Church will officiate. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the State of Michigan’s mandates, guests will be limited in number, face coverings will be required, and no food or beverages will be permitted inside the building.
