Obituary of William Thomas Hodges
William Thomas Hodges was born on January 3, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan.
William married Mary Castillo in Las Vegas on May 14, 1999. The loving couple would make their home in Monroe. William and Mary would share their residence with their beloved yorkies and shih tzus named: Gabby, Shane John Wayne, Isabella, and Abigail.
As an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team, William weekly rooted for a victory of his beloved team.
When he was younger and healthy, William would assist his neighbors with light maintenance work. He often helped his community rake leaves in the fall, winterize sprinkler systems at the end of the summer and shovel snow in the winter. To stay active, William appreciated walking, and walking everywhere. He sometimes would walk to Toledo, Ohio and back just for fun. He also could be seen pedaling his bike all over town, at least for ten miles per day. William often played softball many summers at Softball City in Canton, Michigan. This is where he and his bride to be, Mary had first met. He relished playing sports like hockey, football and bowling with his dad and his brothers. After he had open heart surgery, William could only walk two houses from his home before needing a break. This was a big change and difficult for him to accept as he was always very active.
At Christmas, William’s family looked forward to him dressing up as Santa for them and for the handicap children in Livonia. He was authentic and played the part of Saint Nicholas well.
William Thomas Hodges, age 62 of Monroe passed away at his home on Friday December 25, 2020 at 6:30pm. In addition to his passing, he is preceded by his parents, and his sister: Rosemary “Pixie”.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife: Mary Castillo; two sisters: Michelle (Cam) Hodges, Valerie Stevens; three brothers: Tim (Kim) Stevens, Jack (Sue) Stevens and Michael (Hetty) Hodges and brother-in-law: Leo.
Family and friends may gather on Wednesday December 30, 2020 from 4:00p.m. until the celebration of his life at 6:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the state of Michigan’s mandates, guests will be limited in number, face coverings are required, and no food or beverages will be permitted inside the building.
