Obituary of Bernice Stella Baranowski

Please share a memory of Bernice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bernice Stella Baranowski was born in Monroe on September 17, 1941.   She was one of six children born from the union of the late Joseph and Balbina (Bieneik) Baranowski.  Given much latitude during her formative years, Bernice was a self-professed wild-child!   She attended Dundee High School.

Bernice married Raymond Donald Hoover and the couple would be blessed with five daughters of their own.   She was great mom, known to be the family disciplinarian, although she would allow her girls to skip school for a shopping trip to K-Mart, but never afraid to use the wooden spoon.   An extremely hard worker, as a young woman to help make ends meet, Bernie was employed at Alma Plastics in Milan.   Later she would work in long-term care as a Nurse’s Aide and Housekeeper for Frenchtown Convalescent Center, The Lutheran Home, and Beach Nursing Home.

Bernice was a people pleaser.   She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was quite fond of her grand dogs.   She enjoyed crocheting, visiting the casino, and scratch off tickets.   Bernice loved food and especially going out to eat.   She enjoyed a good pizza with little sauce and a cup of Tim Hortons coffee.

Bernie loved to travel just recently visiting her brother in Georgia, and for the past few years had lived somewhat like a gypsy taking turns living with each of her daughters.

Bernie, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 under the care of Elara Caring Hospice.   In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by three grandsons:  Jason Kopka, Ryan Kopka, and Brandon Mosingo; a sister:  Virginia; three brothers:  Edward, Edwin, and Ted Baranowski; and her former spouse:  Raymond on June 14, 2016.

To cherish her memory she leaves five daughters:  Rachele (Eric) Knerr of Petersburg, Stacy (Tony) Colley of Addison, Yvette Hoover of Erie, Balbina Crumley of Monroe, Joann (Bob) Begley of Belleville; one brother:  Edmund (Frances) Baranowski of Georgia; six grandchildren:  Brian, Raelyn, Cody, Cory, Kirk, and Landon; and eight great grandchildren:  Ashton, Hunter, Caden, Nathan, Mason, Riley, Daleigh, and Elleigh.

Friends may gather at Pleasant View Cemetery (intersection of Dixon and Ida-West Roads) in Petersburg, Michigan at 12:00pm on Sunday, September 13, 2020.   Her cousin an ordained minister, Dawn Dusseau, will lead graveside services.   Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee; 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131 (734) 529-3156 has been entrusted with her arrangements.  A celebration of life will be held at Dawn Dusseau’s house following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.   Online guests may visit www.merklefs.com.
