Obituary of Laura Anne Root

Please share a memory of Laura to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Laura Anne Masserant was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 13, 1953. She was the oldest of two children born to the late Barbara Masserant. Laura attended grade school and then went to Cardinal Stritch High School, a catholic school in Oregon, Ohio.

At the age of seventeen she would marry the love of her life, Ron Root, on July 17, 1970 at St Patrick Catholic Church in Carleton. The couple had a special bond that would stand the test of time and they would further be blessed with three children of their own.

Laura cared for the needs of her husband and children for many years. She eventually would make her way back to school attending the nursing program at Monroe County Community College. She would graduate in 1992 and quickly set out to make a difference in the lives of others.

Nursing was a passion for Laura, and she worked in many different capacities throughout her career. Laura would work as a registered nurse at Mercy Memorial Hospital. She also worked for local physicians Dr. Miller, March, and Sherrard, and for Dr. Melonakos. She would finish her career working in the essential field of Homecare.

For many years Laura and Ron made their summer home in Brooklyn. The lake house became the central point for many weekend family get-togethers. The children and grandchildren loved to tube, kayak, and just hang out with neighbors. Laura cherished her grandchildren, and she herself would participate in the fun whether sledding or tubing with Ron.

Laura enjoyed being a snowbird and looked forward to wintering in Florida with Ron and friends. Her hobbies were quite diverse. She loved scrapbooking, painting and artwork, gardening, decorating cakes, and going to auctions and visiting garage sales. Each year, Laura, looked forward to a trip to Frankenmuth to celebrate her birthday.
