Obituary of Hallus L. Wood Sargent

Please share a memory of Hallus to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Hallus L. Wood Sargent was born in Verdunville, West Virginia. He was one of 16 children born from the union of his parents: the late Alvin Bascomb Sargent and the late Anna Lee (Smith) Sargent. He began working in the coal mines at a young age and decided to move to Michigan in 1953 where he would begin a lifelong career at Ford Motor Company as a parts and material handler.

It was after he moved to Michigan, he would meet the love of his life: the former Marcia Mae Barron and they were married on November 13, 1965 in Taylor, Michigan. They decided to start a family of their own and were blessed with 4 children. Hallus worked hard to support his family and instilled a solid work ethic into each of his sons.

Having received very little education, he learned to read and write alongside his children. He always had a passion for listening to bluegrass music but began writing songs with his wife. He became very successful producing 3 albums, receiving rewards in Tennessee and having multiple artists including Marty Haggard (Merle Haggards son) cover songs he wrote.

Hallus also enjoyed time spent outdoors tending to his trees and rose bushes and spending countless hours in his shed working on different projects. He was very patient and easy going but was also very reserved and liked to spend time alone.

He was a loving husband and a great father. He loved his grandchildren and cherished time spent spoiling them. He also loved the company of his beloved companion: Babbette who was a female toy cup Yorkshire Terrier. His kind heart and loving nature will be missed by his family and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Hallus L. Wood Sargent, age 85 of Newport, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. In addition to his parents passing, he is preceded in death by his son: Halluce Sargent, 2 sisters, 13 brothers and his granddaughter.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his loving wife of 53 years: Marcia Mae Sargent; his sons: Darrell Sargent, Michael (Anisha) Sargent, Christopher Sargent and Timothy Sargent, many grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several extended family members and friends.
