Obituary of Robert Vesschemoet

Robert Peter Vesschemoet was born in Monroe, Michigan on February 3, 1940. He was the son of the late Maurice and Magdalena (DeGrande) Vesschemoet. Robert was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary Parish attending their grade school. He was a 1958 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central. Bob enlisted in the United States Army, and honorably served his country from 1959-1962. He married Nellie Gallego. From 1968-1978, Bob was employed as an Assistant Vice President at Monroe Bank and Trust. He then worked for several local car dealers before spending seventeen years at Ed Harwood Buick serving as their Used Car Manager. He retired in 2005. Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a former member of the Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138. He enjoyed playing racquetball at the YMCA as well as basketball, baseball, golf, and tennis. He loved to bowl and over 30 years he had a 190 average and bowled a 700 series. He won the all Japan Inner Services League Championship in baseball. On January 5, 2012 he was joined in a civil union to the love of his life the former Marcia (Davidson) Ramsey. The couple was joined in the sacrament of marriage on April 13, 2013 at their church, Prince of Peace in West Bloomfield. Robert Peter Vesschemoet age 73 of West Bloomfield, formerly of Monroe passed away at home on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. His passing was preceded by his parents. To cherish his memory he leaves his wife: Marcia Ramsey Vesschemoet of West Bloomfield; sons: Robert M. of Newport, and Steven P. of Auburn Hills; daughter: Cheryl L. (Ron) Boese of Foster City, California; a step-daughter: Melissa G. (Ryan) Tapper of West Bloomfield; granddaughter: Emily M. Vesschemoet of Goodridge; grandson: Brody M. Tapper of West Bloomfield; and sister: Joanne ("Mickey" Emil) Neirynck of St. Clair Shores Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm; Friday, June 14, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. He will lie in state from 9:00am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00am; Saturday, June 15, 2013 at St. Mary Parish, 127 North Monroe. Procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery for entombment.
