Obituary of Norman Frederick Betts Jr.

Norman Frederick Betts Jr. was born on June 9, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan. He was one of three children born from the union of the late Norman Frederick Betts Sr. and the late Celeste (Miller) Betts.   Norman attended Jefferson High School.

He married the love of his life the former, Beverly Dee Fogh, on September 20, 1974.   From this union came the birth of three children.   Norm loved his family dearly and worked hard to ensure they were always taken care of.   A roofer for 35 years, he spent 33 of those years with Schreiber Roofing and was a proud member of the Roofers Union Local 149 for over 40 years.  He retired in 2009.

Norm was very involved in his community and a friend to everyone.   He was the President of Woodland Beach Association and took great pride in caring for his neighborhood, often seen cruising around on his moped making sure the neighborhood was clean or riding in his 65 Chevelle Convertible.   He was helpful and generous to those around him and will be remembered not only for generosity, but also his great sense of humor.

Norm was an avid Detroit Tiger fan, and tried his best to catch every game.   He enjoyed spending time outdoors and tending to his yard and beautiful flowers.   He loved spending time with his wonderful grandchildren and four legged companions: Mayzie and Izzie.   The love that he shared with others will forever be cherished.

Norman Frederick Betts Jr., age 63 of Monroe, passed away at 6:01pm on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.   In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by sister, Susan, and half-sister, Delores.

To cherish his memory, Norm leaves his beloved wife of forty-four years: Beverly of Monroe; his children: Lori Ann (Seth) Borowski, Gary Charles (Rachel) Betts and Sally Ann (Jason) Gendron, all of Monroe; one brother: Walter Betts; and seven grandchildren: Gavin, Jaxin, Joe, Noah, Averie, Sophia and Brock.

No public services have been planned.   In order to help others, Norm chose to gift his earthly body to the Anatomical Donation program at the University of Toledo.   Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with his arrangements.

If you would like to make a contribution in Memory of Norm, the family has requested to consider Henry Ford Hospice.
