Tania Johnson

Obituary of Tania Johnson

Tania Giska was born on February 22, 1943 in Detroit, MI. She was one of three daughters born to Leslie Leon and Tania (Arika) Giska. Tania attended a one room school house and then Goodrich High School.

Tania married Marvin A. Johnson in 1960 and they were blessed with the birth of two children, and providing for them became her passion.   Tania was chosen Ms. Downtown Flint in 1971.   For many years she worked as a clothing buyer for Smith Bridgeman’s, LaSalle’s and Macy’s.   She then worked as an optician until purchasing Cinderella’s Bridal Shop in Sylvania, OH in 2000.    She operated the shop for six years before returning to being an optician.   In all, she would spend thirty years in eye care before medically retiring from Huron Ophthalmology in Plymouth, MI.

A two-time breast cancer survivor she believed in being generous, often giving to St. Jude, Susan G. Komen, and her local humane Societies.   She also volunteered with the Lion’s Club of Plymouth.

Tania enjoyed entertaining and hosting get togethers.   Loved by all, Tania looked forward to making events special from Thanksgiving to Christmas to birthdays.   She relished spending time with her grandchildren at MacQueen’s Orchard in the fall and 4th of July fireworks in Perrysburg.  In addition, Black Friday shopping preparations after a Thanksgiving feast with family was something she always enjoyed.   After becoming a “Granny” she was a confidante to the grandchildren and a constant fixture at their athletic events.   Tania loved the simple things like her flowers, bird watching, her cats, and one special dog named Buddy that chose her.

Tania, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in Findlay, OH.   Her passing was preceded by her parents and a sister: Sandra Giska.

Left to cherish her memory, Tania leaves two children: Kelly (Dan) Gladstone of Findlay and Kevin (Carole) Johnson of Maumee; her beloved and cherished sister: Joanne Giska of Plymouth; five grandchildren: Brandon (Lauren), Brian (Ashley), and Kelsey Walczak, Alyssa and Alex Johnson; great granddaughter:  Avery Walczak; cousins: Pat (John) Fowler, Randy (Lynn) Frank, and Connie Cryderman; and very special friends: Roderick “Rod” Mackenzie and Laura Gladstone.
