Obituary of John George Stiefel

John George Stiefel was born July 21, 1941 in Bucyrus, Ohio. He was one of ten children born from the union of his parents: the late Kenneth Stiefel and the late Dorothy (Virtue) Stiefel. At a young age, John moved around quite a bit due to his father's work until finally settling down in Port Clinton, Ohio. He attended school at Port Clinton and graduated with the class of 1959 alongside his high school sweetheart: Kathleen Twynham.

In 1960 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country. While enlisted, he worked as an aviation electrician and traveled to many different places. While stationed in Naples, Italy, he was baptized and became a Catholic. Kathleen never left his side and on December 1, 1962, they married and decided to start a family of their own. John was honorably discharged in 1964 and moved his growing family back to Port Clinton until he found work in Monroe. He managed Pleasantville Mobile Home Park for 29 years until he transitioned to La-Z-Boy until finally deciding to retire.

While in Monroe, John stayed very active in his community. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, a volunteer for the Frenchtown Fire Department and EMT. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping with his family and golfing with friends and on St. Anne’s golfing league. In the winters, he and his wife would travel South to North Fort Myers, Florida.

John George Stiefel, of Monroe, age 77, passed away on August 26, 2018 at Beaumont Hospital in Trenton. His passing is preceded by his sister: Nancy (the late Ray) Malone; his brothers: Robert (Joanna) Stiefel and James (the late Lorraine) Stiefel and his parents.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of 55 years: Kathleen Stiefel; his two sons: Dana (Kathleen) Stiefel and Timothy Stiefel; his siblings: Sheila (the late Ed) Bowman, Jacqueline (Wil) Hugli, Sharren (the late John) Lucas, Richard (Lynda) Stiefel, Carolyn (Ken) Ambrozy and Thomas (Cheryl) Stiefel; his grandchildren: Corrie (Michael) Salvador, Keenan (Stephannie) Stiefel, Krystin (Richard) Stiefel-Morgan and Breanna Stiefel; his great grandchildren: Harley, Amira, Finnley and Theodore and many extended family members and friends.
