Janet Loruss

Obituary of Janet Loruss

Janet (Loruss) Sloothaak was born in Holland, Michigan on December 30, 1958.   She was one of four children born from the union of the late Robert P. and Adeline J. (McAlpine) Sloothaak.   She graduated high school in Holland with the Class of 1976.

She married Jeffrey Demaray in April of 1979.  The couple was blessed with birth of two children:  Jennifer and James.   In 1990, Janet moved to the Monroe area.   She took employment with the Immaculate Heart of Mary as a care worker.   For more than fifteen years she would serve the faith community until her own poor health required that she retire.

She married Joseph Loruss in Toledo, Ohio in May of 1996.   Janet was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years.   She loved to spend time on her computer; playing games, talking to friends, and shopping.   Growing up during the Korean Conflict and having her own father deployed made Janet appreciate the little things.  She often collected “stuff” and usually a little bit of everything.

Although, Janet was well-known for her ornery personality, and her ability to keep everyone around her on their toes, she catered to her Pug:  Autumn.   The two shared a home for many years and seemed to be an inseparable pair.   They did everything together including going for ice cream and shopping.

Janet Loruss, age 59, of Monroe passed away at 12:45am on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the IHM Health Care Center where she had been a resident since Tuesday, and under the care of Promedica Monroe Hospice.   Her son, daughter-in-law, life partner, and best friend:  Autumn were at her side. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by a brother:  Ben Moore.

To cherish her memory, she leaves two children:  Jennifer (Matt) Ryalls of Arizona and James Robert Demaray (Veronica Allen) of Monroe; two sisters:  Tressa Moore and Roxanne Daughtery; one granddaughter:  Destiny Mazur; lifetime partner:  Joseph Loruss of Monroe; and her beloved four-legged companion:  Autumn.

No public services are planned.   Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with her arrangements.
