Robert Burns

Obituary of Robert Lewis Burns

Robert Lewis Burns was born on January 9, 1952 in Cheboygan, Michigan. He was one of thirteen children born from the union of the late Charles William Burns and the late Caroline (Clear) Burns.

Robert grew up in LaSalle where he met Lora Butler. They married on August 6, 1977 and from this union came the birth of two children:  Robert Burns Jr. and Dawn Marie Burns. He is remembered by his children as a very loving and devoted father who always steered them in the right direction.  For over 45 years he was employed in the packaging business, most recently from Complete Packaging. There he served in many capacities including working as a laborer and a Hi-Lo driver until he retired in 2005.

Robert received his spiritual nourishment as a member of Monroe Full Gospel Church. Although he was known to be very set in his ways, he was loved by all who knew him. Robert had a very good sense of humor and was known to play a practical joke or two, especially around family. He also loved riding his bicycle everywhere he could. Robert always kept a meticulously maintained yard and loved decorating for the Christmas holidays. He also loved passing out candy on Halloween. Robert was also an avid fan of classic country music.

Robert Lewis Burns, age 66 years, of Monroe, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, January 27, 2018.  He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Carl, Clyde and Phillip; and his sister Violet Holt.
