Dorothy (Leggett) Coffman was born in Louisville, Kentucky on December 26, 1937. She was one of four children born of the union of Manuel and Edith (Rockwell) Leggett. Dorothy married the love of her life, Norman James Coffman on August 25, 1984 in Allen Park, Michigan. Dorothy was a homemaker, and proudly looked after the needs of her husband, children, and dogs. She was extremely organized and her eye for detail kept her home neat, orderly, and beautiful. Family was most important to Dorothy and she considered every minute she spent with her loved ones as time well spent. Dorothy was well-known for her fun loving spirit and her outgoing personality. She had a unique, dry sense of humor. Dorothy loved to stay active and constantly used her artistic ability and love for crafts to be involved in projects. She was a past member of the Moose Lodge and had enjoyed bowling, spending many years participating in league play. Dorothy had several other activities and hobbies that filled her free time including visiting the casinos, playing cards, winning bingo, crocheting, photography, puzzles, and of course shoes. She loved to travel and the ocean and Bush Garden's were favorite destinations. Dorothy Jean (Leggett) Coffman, age 77 of Newport passed away, Wedneday, February 25, 2015, at her home. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by a sister: Geneva Coley. To cherish her memory, Dorothy leaves a loving husband: Norman of Newport; seven daughters: Diane Lankford of Newport, Donna (Randy) Keene of Taylor, Pam (Mike) Vanderenet of Dearborn Heights, Susan (John) Roote of Munising, Holly Coffman of Monroe, Tammy Blazedale of Fife Lake, Angel (Andrew) Coffman of Trenton; three sons: Tim (Robin) Smith of Westland, Norman Coffman Jr. of Huron Township, and Howard Coffman of Monroe; brother: William(Boots) Parrish of Delaware; sister: Mary Fravert of Kentucky; twenty grandchildren: April, Aaron, Alaina, Donald, Cole, Stephanie, Victoria, Sarah, Tara Jayne, Brandon, Johnathon, Shawn, John Jr., Glen, Heather, Joseph, Dustin, Austin, Anthony, and Leslie; and sixteen great grandchildren. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 7:00pm on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will follow at 7:00pm also at Merkle's with Pastor Roy Sutherland of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church officiating.
