Obituary of Stanley Victor Martin
Stanley Victor Martin was born at home in Dearborn, Michigan on February 5, 1943. He was the youngest of seven children born to Nicholas and Pauline (Ostpovich) Martyn. Vic attended Dearborn High School. As a mischievous young man, he and his brother made a prank phone call that led him to meet his future bride, Joyce Vogel. The couple were joined in holy matrimony on October 1, 1966 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Dearborn. The couple were blessed with two sons. To provide for the needs of his family, Vic was employed for forty years as a tool and dye maker at Ford Motor Company for forty years. He retired in 2005.
Vic enjoyed hitting the open road on his motorcycle and bowling in league play in the downriver area as a youth. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed roughing it in a tent but eventually moved up to the comforts of a fifth wheel. Vic looked forward to spending the summers fishing for Smelt, sitting around a bonfire, playing cornhole, and cooking out with his family. The designated grill master, not even pouring rain kept him from manning the barbeque. Conversely, Vic never spent any time in the kitchen. He often tuned into cooking shows on television, but only to make suggestions to his family on what to cook for him!
Whether it be music, television, or vehicles, Vic loved the classics he grew up with. He had a vast knowledge of automobiles and listened to rock and country music. He and his wife once took a memorable trip to Branson, Missouri, to take in its live entertainment scene. Vic also liked black and white Westerns and classic comedies such as “Laurel and Hardy”, “The Three Stooges”, and “Airplane”. Quite the jokester, Vic was known to be quite animated. His great sense of humor was hidden under a tough exterior, earning him the monikers “sour patch kid” and “pudding filled cactus”. All who met him quickly grew to love him.
Stanley Victor Martin, age 80, of Carleton, Michigan, passed away peacefully at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital on Tuesday; March 7, 2023. His passing was preceded by his parents; five siblings; two sisters in-law: Pam Martin and Donna Boorman; and his mother and father-in-law: Anna Mae and George Vogel.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of fifty-seven years: Joyce Martin; two sons: Mike (Ashley) Martin and Curt Martin (Tina Biniecki); two grandchildren: Justin Martin and McKenna Martin; one brother: Frank Martin; two brothers-in-law: William (Audrey) Vogel and Harold Boorman; one sister-in-law: Debbie Vogel-Brakke; many nieces and nephews; and a beloved canine companion: “Jasper”, the mutt who could always be found under his feet at the kitchen table.
Friends may gather at 2:00pm on Saturday; March 18, 2023 at Orchards Mobile Home Park Community Center; 3600 Townsquare Boulevard, Carleton, Michigan, 48117. A Celebration of Stanley’s Life will begin at the Community Center at 3:00pm. His care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation has taken place at the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
